PLAGIARISM POLICY

The Indonesian Journal of Law Research (IJOLARES) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity and ethical publishing. The journal has a zero-tolerance policy toward plagiarism and all forms of academic misconduct.

All manuscripts submitted to IJOLARES are screened for originality before entering the peer-review process. Authors are responsible for ensuring that their submissions are entirely original, properly cited, and free from plagiarism, self-plagiarism, data fabrication, data falsification, and any other unethical publishing practices.

  1. Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism is the use of another person's ideas, words, data, figures, tables, images, legal arguments, research findings, or other intellectual property without appropriate acknowledgment or proper citation.

The journal considers the following practices to constitute plagiarism:

  • Copying text without quotation marks and proper citation.
  • Presenting another author's ideas or arguments as one's own.
  • Reproducing tables, figures, images, or illustrations without permission or acknowledgment.
  • Copying substantial portions of previously published works.
  • Paraphrasing another author's work without proper attribution.
  • Translating published works into another language without appropriate citation.
  • Using artificial intelligence (AI) to generate content while presenting it as entirely original without disclosure where required.
  1. Self-Plagiarism

Authors must not reuse significant portions of their previously published work without proper citation.

Self-plagiarism includes, but is not limited to:

  • Republishing substantially the same manuscript.
  • Reusing large sections of text without citation.
  • Duplicate publication.
  • Salami publication (fragmenting one study into multiple publications without sufficient novelty).
  • Simultaneous submission of substantially similar manuscripts to different journals.

Authors wishing to reuse previously published material must appropriately cite the original publication and clearly explain the novelty of the submitted manuscript.

  1. Similarity Screening

Every manuscript submitted to IJOLARES undergoes plagiarism screening using recognized plagiarism detection software before the peer-review process.

The editorial office evaluates not only the overall similarity percentage but also:

  • The sources of similarity;
  • The location of matched text;
  • The context of the similarity;
  • Proper citation practices;
  • Potential copyright infringement.

Editorial decisions are not based solely on the similarity index. A low similarity score does not automatically indicate originality, while a higher similarity score may be acceptable when it results from correctly cited quotations, references, legal provisions, standard methodological descriptions, or publicly available official documents.

May require revision if significant overlaps are identified.

Above 25%

Subject to detailed investigation and may be returned for revision or rejected, depending on the nature and extent of the overlap.

The Editor-in-Chief retains full discretion in evaluating originality regardless of the reported similarity percentage.

  1. Editorial Assessment

When evaluating plagiarism reports, editors consider:

  • Whether proper citations are provided;
  • Whether the overlap occurs in the Introduction, Method, Results, or Discussion sections;
  • Whether duplicated material affects the originality of the research;
  • Whether legal texts, legislation, court decisions, or official documents account for the similarity;
  • Whether the overlap constitutes acceptable academic practice or publication misconduct.

Editorial judgment always takes precedence over numerical similarity scores.

  1. Actions in Cases of Plagiarism

If plagiarism is identified during the editorial process, IJOLARES may take one or more of the following actions:

  • Request revision before peer review;
  • Return the manuscript to the authors for clarification;
  • Reject the manuscript immediately;
  • Suspend the review process pending investigation;
  • Notify the authors' institution when serious misconduct is confirmed.

If plagiarism is discovered after publication, the journal may:

  • Publish a correction;
  • Publish an expression of concern;
  • Retract the published article;
  • Notify indexing services and relevant institutions where appropriate.
  1. Author Responsibilities

Authors submitting manuscripts to IJOLARES confirm that:

  • The manuscript is their original work.
  • All sources have been properly cited.
  • The manuscript has not been plagiarized.
  • The manuscript has not been submitted simultaneously to another journal.
  • Any reused material has been appropriately acknowledged and cited.
  • All co-authors have approved the submitted version.

Authors remain fully responsible for the originality and integrity of their manuscripts.

  1. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Originality

The use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools for language editing, grammar improvement, or writing assistance does not exempt authors from their responsibility to produce original scholarly work.

Authors remain fully accountable for:

  • The originality of all submitted content;
  • The accuracy of legal analysis and research findings;
  • Proper citation of all sources;
  • Compliance with the journal's ethical standards.

AI-generated content that contains plagiarism, fabricated references, inaccurate legal information, or misleading statements constitutes academic misconduct.

  1. Appeals

Authors may appeal editorial decisions relating to plagiarism by submitting a written explanation together with supporting evidence.

Appeals will be reviewed by the Editor-in-Chief and, where appropriate, additional editorial board members.

The final editorial decision shall be based on the evidence provided and the journal's ethical standards.

IJOLARES is dedicated to promoting responsible research, academic honesty, transparency, and ethical publishing.

The journal expects all authors, reviewers, editors, and publishers to uphold the highest standards of research integrity throughout the submission, review, publication, and post-publication processes.
